KUNMING, China, Sept. 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- September is China’s national Quality Month. In order to be sure of correctly handling emergency rescue in the elevators and escalators within the Kunming Metro system, and to strengthen the ability of Kunming Metro’s rescue personnel to respond to emergency situations in elevators, the "Safe Ride, Happy Life" series of campaigns, sponsored by the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Market Supervision, and co-organized by Yunnan Jingjian Rail Transit, Guandu District Market Supervision Administration and Hitachi Elevator (China) Co., Ltd., were launched at Guangwei Metro Station on in the afternoon of Sept. 22.
With the rapid growth of the city, the metro has become an important link between urban areas and for intercity development. With a large, multi-line network, Kunming Metro is capable of transporting up to ten million passengers per year. The metro has become one of the important means of transportation for daily travel. While providing convenient and comfortable travel services to the public, metro operators must deal with the challenge of ensuring the safety of passengers.
In the public lecture session, the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Market Supervision and Yunnan office of Hitachi Elevator provided businesses and the general public with training followed by a Q&A on elevator safety laws and regulations as well as elevator knowledge, in addition to elaborating on the correct use of elevators. The atmosphere at the event was welcoming and friendly, attracting many passengers and passers-by.
The emergency rescue exercise for escalators at the station was the key part of this event. The drill simulated an emergency situation whereby a person had slipped and fallen on the escalator. The staff at the station heard the call for help and immediately rushed to the scene to calm the passenger, reported to the vehicle control room through the intercom, and notified the medical team and elevator equipment maintenance personnel.
There are 175 Hitachi elevators in operation along Metro Line 4, where the event was held, ensuring the safe entry and exit of 110,000 passengers per day. In order to cope with the huge passenger flow, all personnel concerned must always be alert to the safety of passengers and master the skills needed to deal with unexpected situations. The event achieved good results, not only completing onsite rescue simulation to a high standard, but also effectively enhancing the collaborative response capability of all relevant parties in dealing with safety emergencies in rail transit, providing a chance for the parties to accumulate valuable rescue experience during the practice.
